I guess it means, "After this, everything was okay."  I have no idea, really.  Any input?  Thanks.

Hi xiaophil

这下(= 这一下) means "this time". The "下" is a measure word that indicates a number of action, just like "次" (ci4) and "回" (hui2).

Hey Changye

Thanks.  I guess it probably means 'everything is alright now' or something like that.

Er, I think “这下可好了" doesn't mean that. Actually, I suppose it has some kind of negative meaning. We usually use it like this.

—陈曦,我弄丢了你的作业本。

—这下可好了,不用交作业啦?

We don't use“这下可好了” as"everything is alright now"

Hi chenjiapei

Thanks for your comment. You mean that "这下可好了" carries a sarcarstic connotation. Am I right?

Changye

My chinese colleague said it could be negative or positive but is in general negative.  It seems to me it is similar to "Oh, that's just great!"

e.g.:

(I found out I failed a test) 这下可好了! (That's just great!)
