February 07, 2010, 06:33 AM posted in General Discussion
So please post what books you feel are best for studying 汉字。
谢谢,
欧阳骏
PS - I'm new to this site, so sorry if there is already a thread on this, but I could not find anything I was looking for when searching under the community section.

I am aware of the Heisig book, but have not seen or used it. I've heard mixed reviews that the Tuttle series is better than the Heisig series and applies better to Chinese characters. What is your opinion on this, have you used both books? I'm looking to see what the key differences are between the two and which is better.
Thanks,
Ryan

February 08, 2010, 05:02 AMI'm interested in hearing opinions too. I admit I am somewhat loathe to be learning to remember the english meanings of characters with stories rather than learning real etymologies or the chinese pronunciations... but I really could use something to step up my knowledge of characters.

I have just started another thread to compare the difference between Tuttle vs. Heisig.

I know a lot of people put down the system in regards to the learning methodology, but for me it is the best. I learn it and more importantly retain the meaning and how to draw it. Awesome method.

February 07, 2010, 06:58 AMHi ouyangjun116
This is not a book for learning how to write hanzi, but an easy-to-read book for learning about etymologies of hanzi, which was written by a western author.
