February 11, 2010, 04:03 AM posted in General DiscussionFor those of you not currently living in China, have you noticed any Spring Festival/New Year festivities in Chinese communities in your area? What kinds of things are going on? Are you planning anything for this year's Spring Festival?

February 11, 2010, 04:42 AMI'm in China, so I guess I really can't say for sure, but my hometown, Grand Rapids, has a low Chinese population. I'm sure most Grand Rapidians are oblivious to Chinese New Year.

February 14, 2010, 12:44 AMok,what tiger related words do we have in Chinese?
I just looked up Tiger balm:
万金油
.. to 发现 no Tigers! What's the story here? Why is it called tiger balm in the first place? Does this mean tenthousand gold oil?..like it's so precious its oil that's worth ten thousand pieces of gold?

February 14, 2010, 07:14 AMNope, haven't noticed anything. There is apparently a Chinese community of some sorts here, but I've never seen them. They don't really do public things, it seems. There's a Chinese restaurant downtown, though, but I haven't been there for yonks. Can't afford to eat out now that I'm saving up for going to China! :)
