In short, 看 is "watch, look, read", and 见 is "see".

我没看过这本书，没看过这部电影。

我没见过他。我没见过这么漂亮的姑娘。

见朋友 “见” means "约好了要见面"，like "meet";

看朋友 “看” means “看望”，like "visit";

我看见朋友...... 看 kàn means "look", and 见 jiàn expresses the result.

For example，他来了，我看见他了！

Yes, 看见 usually translate "see" in English, however "see with your eyes" 可以说："用你的眼睛看"。

So, I think 看见 would usually translate "see" in English, as in "see with your eyes". Is that right?
