"Add this word to your vocabulary list" button?

August 24, 2007, 01:03 AM posted in General DiscussionSo, it seems in some random fluke of nature I stumbled upon a button that fits the title of this post in the CPod dictionary this morning. However, just now when I searched for a new word that button was nowhere to be found.
Is this a function that is going to be introduced soon to the CPod dictionary? I ask only because I've already spent 6 hours manually inputing and exporting vocabulary to my list, and if this button feature is going to be introduced soon I can save myself some long hours of tediously sickening work. =)

August 24, 2007, 02:02 AMYou guys are the best! We've been without this feature for awhile, but I understand this type of programing doesn't happen over night. Thanks for getting this feature back on the site! Now I can get back to character cramming!

August 24, 2007, 05:49 AMIt seems that the button is no longer working. The edit button takes me to an edit-option screen, but clicking the "vocab" button yeilds no results.

August 24, 2007, 05:55 AMActually, some words are working and others aren't. "Forum crushing machine" and "head ache" both work. "Head" "foot" and "ache" don't. Maybe just buggy? I'll play around a bit more...

August 24, 2007, 06:17 AMWe've been tweaking some of the backend search code to try and speed up searches. There's been a definite improvement in responsiveness from here (in Shanghai at least), and I'm getting results for all three of those now. Hopefully you were just trying at a bad time.

August 24, 2007, 02:46 PMI love the new dictionary and the example sentences that it gives. Outstanding! However, whenever I try to add the word to my vocabulary bank, I get the message, "login and add these words to your Chinesepod vocab list with one click." But I am logged on to Chinesepod. Is there something I'm missing? I'm not good at these things.

August 27, 2007, 05:58 AMHi WeiXiao, Sorry for the confusion. Currently, if you are logged into ChinesePod, you will not be automatically logged in to the CPod dictionary and so you have to type in your login again. We are working to unify this though.

August 27, 2007, 07:36 AM@wei1xiao4, right now the auto-login is totally one-sided. We're working towards automating the labs login so that signing in on the main site also logs people in at the labs/dict. But it will take some time before we have that working, as it will require some backend changes site-wide.

August 24, 2007, 01:32 AMHi Kyle, The new dictionary supports this! So out with the old.... when you look up a word you should see two red buttons below the entry. The first allows you to edit definitions and the second is a click-to-add-to-vocab-list button. You'll need to be logged in for either button to work. But once you are, you can also click on any of the other popups on the site (i.e. in the sample sentences) and they'll get added to your vocab list too. As part of some bug-fixing work on the new homepage, the dictionary search box there was redirected to the old dictionary site for a while this morning. Maybe this is the cause of the confusion?
