Lily,

The new Elementary lesson "Dinner with Freinds"  looks like a good one for next month!

Hi Lily,

From the "What would you like to eat" expansion, I see both of these:

李先生喜欢什么饮料喜欢可乐
(What beverage does Mr. Li like to drink? He likes to drink cola.)

(I don't like to drink beverages. I like to drink tea.)

Question: Is tea considered a

yǐnliào?

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob,
Tea is a kind of yǐnliào according to its general meaning. But yǐnliào has a narrow meaning, sometimes it only refers to Carbonated drinks.

Lily,

The expansion has this sentence:

不是女朋友

(Doesn't he have a girlfriend now?)

Is the 是 required for this to be a question?  Would the statement be:

他没女朋友。

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob,

Yes, you are corrent, The sentence is a  rhetorical question, 是 is required here, it's used to emphasis. The ordinary statement should be: 他有女朋友。
