difference between 茨 and 遍

hello everyone,my first post ever....could anyone explain the difference in usage and/meaning betweem 栨 and 遍

As measure words? You mean 次, right? I guess 次 counts repetitious occurrences and 遍 emphasizes a complete process from beginning to end. Like maybe telling a friend to give a podcast a listen... if you said 听一遍 that would mean listening to the whole thing from the beginning. 次 can be a measure word for things like hurricanes, in other words, it can actually be followed by a noun that it's a measure word for. I'm not sure if 遍 is used that way, or if it's just verb + number + 遍

hi hakkagirl, Yes, aeflow has it just right. Here's another way to look at it as well: 再说一次。(zài shuō yī cì) "Say it one more time." 再说一遍。(zài shuō yī biàn) "Say it one more time (from start to finish)." When you use 遍 (biàn) it should be for actions that you have to go all the way through with. 次 (cì) can be partial, but 遍 (biàn) cannot.
