Right, I ordered a 象棋 set yesterday, but I don't think it comes with rules! I aim to be able to play by the autumn - does anyone have a good link to a set of basic rules? The wikipedia article (as usual with wikipedia!) quickly descends into overly-technical jargon, so a beginner's guide would be very much appreciated...

To answer my own question since this group is so inactive, I've found some really useful basic rules here!

Managed to find a free 象棋 app on my ipod, and I will practice practice practice :-) The girlfriend has no interested in playing, but her dad does, apparently. I plan on getting good enough for him to beat me with maybe a little challenge every time. Hehe!
