Bowtie
Is a neck tie
seems nobody wears a bow tie in China, but then nobody wears one here either! (my profile picture is an exception!)

I think of 打as hit 例如‘打篮球’ :-)
为什么用打 is there a story behind it or is it just one of those things that just is?
I've decided to include the English to my questions so that you can see what I intended to ask in case I have it wrong! Truth is last week was the first week that I wrote the English questions out rather than just doing Chinese. I did it because I realised I was phrasing the questions to suit my vocabulary and not challenging myself to ask other things. I'm still doing that to a degree and I notice the English affecting my word order but.....

Ah, good question! :)
It can even be read as "da2", meaning "dozen".
For example, “十二个是一打” .
Here are some commonly used words regarding "打da3" :
1. 打字= to type word
2. 打印= to print
3. 打哈欠= yawn
4. 打包= to pack, or doggy pack
5. 打车(or 打的da3di1)= to take a taxi. ( This is more common than 坐出租
车.)
6. 打架= to fight (physically)
7. 打工= to work as a temporray employee
8. 打开= to open (such as window, door, book, etc.)

我觉得你的想法很好,it would be much better if you include English to your questions.
Great job, Trevor!
