Problems Posting?

We know many of you have been experiencing problems publishing posts to groups. I'd like to let you know that this bug has been fixed. You'll now receive a success message after clicking on "publish" the first time. In addition, we're in the process of adding an unpublish functionality to the edit page (click on the pencil icon under your post) effectively hiding it from everyone (this is basically a delete function, but you can still salvage an old post and publish it again later). Please let us know if you're still experiencing problems or if you have questions related to this other other issues. Thanks!

Catherine or someone at CPod

I hope someone help me understand the rational behind the new setup. I have an open mind about the changes, but I must confess it so far has baffled me. I can understand that you guys want this Dashboard to be a place where everything is conveniently right there. Yes, that does seem convenient. That said, I don't pay any attention to the "lessons list" on that page because I have my own way of studying lessons. I also don't look at the "conversations" portion because I have to scroll all the way to the bottom every time I go there, and the text is too small. For these reasons I spend no time on the Dashboard, and I spend a lot of time on the Community page and the Lessons' pages. Now there isn't any reason that I cannot continue to use the website as I always have, but now I have found a slight annoyance. When I want to make a post I have to do it from the Dashboard. But why can't I just do it from the Community page? It's a small matter, but I am searching my brain to figure out why CPod would take this feature away. Is there a technical reason why the poddies can't make a post from the Dashboard and the Community page? Can't there be more than one way to skin a cat? Can I have some insight?

'Air privileges' restricted in China? Xiao_liang - have you been watching the BBC again?

And air privileges should be restricted also!

No wait, China does that already. OH HO TOPICAL.

Nah, that would be counterproductive. ;)

smiley icons Good one!

Come to think of it, that might not be so crazy as it sounds! It might really produce results!

I'm not sure I approve of chinesepod workers being allowed lunch. I think we should raise it as a bug. Until 100% of people reading the site are happy with its functionality, no lunch allowed. All in favour?

Hi Catherine, I think you did right in assuming that I was not being sarcastic, nor funny. I am a very serious guy. I know it all takes time.... Eer, read that back to me will you Moneypenny? Ummm. 'Brief' lunch hey, I was with you right up to that bit about a 'brief' lunch. Actually I AM making fun of your work habits. I confess. Compiling material for 'ChinesePod: The Unauthorised Biography'.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not so I'm going to respond assuming you're not. We haven't spent the last three hours "just talking!" Instead, we have been publishing lessons, responding to other threads, recording, and even eating a brief lunch... :)

That took three hours!!! What on earth were you guys talking about? Actually after my discussion elsewhere with John on Lesson Lists I am not surprised that it took three hours.

We have decided not to delete the Posts tab. You have all raised some great points, and contrary to popular belief, we are listening to what you guys say!

Okay, and I am not trying to get on your case. I just want to wrap my head around this new process.

Xiaophil I have read your comment, as have many of my colleagues, and am working on a response. We appreciate your input and are not ignoring you or your question.

CPod, there is a question here. I'm not trying to imply that I am impatient and need an answer now. I just am afraid that my question will be lost if I don't make sure it is put back on the conversations page.

And by the way, thanks for your comments go_manly, sydcarten and paulinurus.

And if anyone cares, yes, I want the "rationale behind the new setup," and not "rational numbers". 啊啊.

Yea, the d board has been built, so by hook or crook, it's got to be used. Too bad, because as I've posted before, the old system was so uncomplicated and effective. The only feature that the old system did not have was "Replies To Me" which I fail to see why this feature couldn't be introduced as a separate page instead of reinventing the complete wheel. After the Posts Page, obviously next to go would be the Conversations Page since all the conversations you choose to participate in are on your dash board, then next the whole Community Section would be irrelevant. After all, who needs a Community when we all have individual pigeon holes of lessons and dash boards.

and if you try to avoid the exorbitant tolls on new freeways and tunnels you are accused of 'rat running'

When Sydney's cross-city tunnel was built, other roads were closed for no other reason than to force people to use the tunnel, because they motorists had been choosing not to use it. I suspect we have a similar situation here.

Yea, and I can't delete them :-( There is no pencil icon, and the pencil icon the posts page just takes you to an edit function.

Sorry again everyone.

I know the feeling. The same thing happened to me yesterday. It seems when I reported the bug they fixed it on the dashboard but not on the conversations "Posts" page. They're working on it now and should have it fixed later this afternoon.

re: multiple posts, no I didn't. I clicked the button and nothing happened. So after a short pause, I clicked it again. Still nothing happened. A bit bored now, and wondering if something was wrong with my computer, I clicked it several times in succession, at which point it told me I'd successfully posted a message. "Hooray!" I though. Then the page refreshed and my heart sunk as I saw what havoc I'd wreaked on the dashboard :-p

We are working on this and will keep you updated. For now the edit icon that is available to admin (and which I would like to make available to users) is visible on the conversation page itself. When clicked, it takes you to the edit page.

But where will that edit icon be located if there is no Post page?

And, I'll restate my earlier question: If we want to "... salvage an old post and publish it again ...", where will we find these 'hidden' posts in order to publish them again if there is no Posts page? How will we locate our own hidden posts?

They're in the process of adding the pencil icon to posts that you have authored so if you choose to you can unpublish them. I apologize for the confusion. I have this ability as an admin and I believed the function had been successfully added, but it has not yet. The tech. team is still testing it.

What it will be is this: a pencil icon you can click on that will take you to an edit post page. From that page you can change your post, publish your post, or unpublish your post (which deletes it). Will keep you updated on the status of this update. Thanks for your patience and sorry for the confusion.

As for the multiple posts - xiao_liang: did you not see a success message the first time you attempted to publish?

Isn't a pencil used for writing/posting and not deleting? Or maybe there is a rubber at the end of the pencil. Aiyo, so confusing!

I haven't checked this fix yet, but are you sure it is actually fixed?  Since this post, xiao_liang has managed to set a new record by making the same post 8 times!

"...but you can still salvage an old post and publish it again later"

I am somewhat confused by this statement.  How will we be able to do this if there is no Posts page for us to access our own posts?  Won't the post be hidden from the writer also?
