Hi Gareth
Maybe you'd find this thread of interest, and if you haven't already done so, do join the group !
Transcribing can be really tough at first, but I still believe it can be a truly effective way to improve listening/comprehension skills if you stick with it. Dogged persistence is the key, as with so many things. Patience too, of course. If you share your efforts in our transcript group, you can call on the help and support of other poddies to 'fill in the blanks', (maybe even share the task,) and much can be learned that way too, as I have often found myself.

Okay - thanks. I'll keep practising and hopefully I will be able to accurately transcribe more than 5-10 words each time!

August 03, 2010 at 02:51 PMHi go_manly,
I've read in a few places that creating transcripts for a few lessons is a good way to improve one's Chinese, especially when moving up a level. I've just started doing one of the lessons and I tend to agree.
It's amazing how many words people say, even in a 5 second window... so the transcribing requires lots of stopping, starting, double-checking, etc.
Would you mind sharing what software you use to control the playback of the MP3 file? There must be something easier to use than iTunes!
Many thanks,
Gareth
