What is Jenny Saying?

October 28, 2007, 10:49 PM posted in General Discussion晚上好大家。 In the leadin in to many of the Newbie lessons Jenny says something that I don't quite understand. What it sounds like is 这是wo3ke4中国. The part I think I understand would mean "This is ? ? Chinese." What what are the characters for what sounds like wo3ke4?
I'm very glad to have learned how to write in Chinese on my computer. It's amazing technology. Thanks.

November 02, 2007, 05:04 AMMaxiewawa. Brilliant! You must belong to a secret new expression society that has given the world words like metrosexual' and 'cewebrity'.

October 29, 2007, 01:26 AMHi guys, Yes, TaiPan's right, that's how you say ChinesePod in Chinese: 中文播客 (Zhōngwén bōkè) 播客 (bōkè) is the word for podcast in Chinese.

October 29, 2007, 02:46 AMWhat a quick response. I thought it might have something to do with "Chinese Pod" since Ken says that in the leadin but I was guessing (like TaiPan). I just didn't know what the words and characters were. So that's 播 - broadcast 客 - traveller or passenger. Thanks for the new techno vocabulary.

October 29, 2007, 07:25 AMI'd like to propose "播课“ as a new transliteration for 'podcast'... The accepted translation is "博客" but combining "transmit" with "class" makes much more sense when referring to an educational podcast. I've always used "播课“ when referring to Chinesepod, but it still hasn't caught on... :(

October 31, 2007, 09:28 PMa mnemonic for the tones on bo: 播客 bo1 ke4 = you listen first to the podcast 博客 bo2 ke4 = you then read the blog, if you have time.

November 01, 2007, 01:44 AMdbuell brings up an interesting point... would be nice if we could have a lesson on having a chinesepod lessons using Chinese instruction words like: repeat after me, what does this mean, 1st time , 2nd time...bo1 ke4....etc... you know, the most common podcast words and phrases used for teaching a language all bundled into one consolidating podcast? For instance, I don;t know how many time I listened to da jia hao...before I finally found out that da jia means everybody! :-) yet, its in every lesson without a translation... so you just tune it out after some time... until you can find somebody to ask..and you just happen to be thinking about it...

November 01, 2007, 10:18 AMClayroup: Will that be a re-awakening of the dead "Podcasting" lesson or something totally different?

October 28, 2007, 10:57 PMI'm guessing she's saying Chinesepod in Chinese... but that's a guess don't trust my version.
