Can anybody explain why I can input Radical 175 by typing the Pinyin “fu”  阝,  but when I then highlight it and go into format >Asian layout> in a Word doc  it then give the Pinyin like this (zuǒ)  ?zuo3

Hi Keth,

I never knew you could add the pinyin from the characters in word. How interesting.

Anyway, to answer your question, the name of the 阝raical (when it appears on the left side of a character) is 左耳刀儿. It seems word is just taking the first character of this name (zuo3). If you try it with 冫(enter pinyin bing to get this), which is called 两点水, word recognises it as liang3 and 氵(三点水) as san1 etc.
