lunetta, it's the one you asked me about: Times - CP Chinese Learner's Dictionary 时代－商务馆学华语词典 published by EPB Pan Pacific (2008) ISBN: 978-981-271-770-2 I hope the publishers are smart and nice enough to give away free copies through CPOD! I really like this dictionary because it has so many examples (at least 4 - 5) for every entry, in very simple Chinese characters, which I think means that it can be very useful even for Newb/ Ele learners who may not be ready yet for a Chinese-only dictionary. Just to clarify our dictionary is for Chinese Learner's and not the classic one (First/Second Language) by Commercial Press that changye posted on. jwosmun got the correct one. In fact it has even more words. You can pick out "Times - CP Chinese Learner's Dictionary" 时代－商务馆学华语词典 by its unique red(top) and blue(bottom) cover. The dictionary is available on-line for S$24.98 at www.popular.com.sg/jsp/product/product_detail.jsp?vpd001=77725&vsc=false. However, the shipping cost to Los Angeles was given as about US$53, which seems way too high, so I stopped myself from ordering, and will seek an alternative source should one become available.

Aiya, my copy -- purchased at Times The Bookshop -- cost S$27.71 !!!!! My frugal Hakka genes (50% of the DNA) are in horror! Well, let's see what the publisher has to say... hope they post soon.

Hi guys staying in China, You can get the dictionary “时代－商务馆学华语词典”, auntie68 introduced above, at online bookstores in China. Be careful, it is sold under the title of “商务馆学汉语词典”, and there are two editions, cheap one and deluxe one. This dictionary is targeted mainly for foreign learners. changye, wow, thanks! Actually, the edition I am referring to seems to be a different edition. The one in your links is the classic "Commercial Press Learners' Dictionary". My understanding is that the edition which has just been launched this year Singapore -- as per jwosmun's link -- is a "Southeast Asian" edition which differs mainly in the examples (they were simplified), and also in the language notes which address "Southern" Mandarin expressions that overseas Chinese may be familiar with. My copy is only the size of a stack of three DVD jewel cases.

Hi CPOD users, I have been reading the comments and looking at lessons over the past few days. This is a really useful learning portal for the language of Chinese. I haven't seen anything like it. And it is wonderful to see people from all nationalities being so enthused about the Chinese Language. People like auntie68 never ceases to amaze me =) rediscovering roots? Sounds like something I should do for my Cantonese. For those in North America, perhaps the shipping will be less if you order from a North American vendor. In my case, I am in Canada so I often order from Hanban. www.hanban.ca I just checked and they do have this dictionary, however it is listed at $35. I might just try it out and order it. The other learners dictionary I have right now is Tuttle's Learner's dictionary which lists about 4800 words with lots of example sentences as well. I actually picked that one up at the Foreign Languages bookstore in Beijing about one month ago. Its pretty good and I would recommend that one to people as well.

I bought a teeny-weeny dictionary today to put in my pocket. I will need a proper dictionary at some point as well so I will check this one out when that time comes. I also bought another learning chiense book with lots of colourful pictures and a CD etc.. It's called "Easy Peasy Chinese" :) Just what I need I think.. It seems like a perfect companion to go with the cPOD stuff because it's all high-frequency stuff and cultural information. Once I've had a better read of it, I'll let you know how it is.
