Facebook's languages now include: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Japanese and Korean.

Surely Chinese will be next?

I think Korean was only added today, I don't think it was there yesterday.

In Germany Facebook is not nearly as popular as in the states. Most people I know use www.xing.com; a service that is primarily designed for a more professional context. Among others there are Chinese and English versions. Surprisingly there are quite a few Chinese in there, mostly from people working for a German company or a supplier. There is also something called www.studievz.net, which is more the domain of kiddies and young students.

I tested the availability of facebook using this link:

http://www.websitepulse.com/help/testtools.china-test.html

It doesn't seem to be blocked. But I don't know how reliably this link works.

There's still 533 phrases left to translation for 中文(简体). I've translated 4 easy ones. :)

364 phrases left to complete now, and then there's the voting phrase to be completed. So it's probably going to be another week or so yet.

I think I should help out with the 中文 (臺灣 / 香港)。 It's going to be a hard time for me reading Facebook in all  簡體字。 :P

They could use the same process to translate this site into 中文. :)

There's a translations application for users to help with the translations, you can suggest new translations and vote on existing ones. http://www.facebook.com/translations/

中文(简体) Facebook is now down to 195 phrases left to translate.

The best bit about the app is you can actually use Facebook in 中文 and it's works fine even though it's not officially complete.

I recently read an article that talked about Friendster being the largest social networking site in China.  This was surprising since Friendster stopped being relevant in the U.S. many years ago (replaced by MySpace then Facebook).  It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I don't remember the original article but here's a similar one:
Friendster’s growth in Asia could make it the top social network in the world, once again

An interesting offshoot of facebook is http://facestat.com/

if you have thick skin send your photo out for evaluation by at least 40 other people in terms of attractiveness, age, and other features.

There's reports that Facebook might be blocked in China now. Can anyone confirm this?

That is an awesome application (應用程式) Bazza. Thank you for sharing.

and, I second Bazza's thought on how we can get this site translated.  I would love to have this site in Chinese again!
