After searching the net for a while, the closest I came to that was "俎豆之事,则尝闻之矣;军旅之事,未之学也" It roughly translates to "I know a little about ceremonial rites, but nothing about military affairs" haha so I can only suppose that's a very rough translation you have, or I got the wrong quote. You can read an analysis here, under 宪问篇第十四 http://www.ld.nbcom.net/kongzi/

oh but it's some deep chinese there. You'll probably only come across this kind of material if you study chinese literature and stuff.

haha I'm so sorry, I gave the wrong link. It's actually 卫灵公篇第十五, rather than 宪问篇第十四. triple post haha. They should have an edit function for these things.

oh yea and the reason she posted was because I challenged her to find the translation and she couldn't. If you look for the quote is ubiquitous and attributed to Confucius in English. In Chinese however it seems to now be there. This is how the whole thing has come about.

wooooooowww... so wait... tianfeng... Dogshit is a girl's name??? I thought my sister was silly for referring to herself as "Ass Monkey" on her own online profile... but "Dogshit"??? However, judging from your chinese writing and your english grammatical errors, i think we can safely assume you are chinese... so we forgive you. :)

any friend of tianfeng's is very welcome warmly here but I do agree, gou3 shi4 is impolite, somewhat offensive, especially for those who read these threads so often please consider changing it to...夠世 gou3shi4 dogworld? doglife?

in fact, the name that I used before is not so serious problem in my society. I am from south west of mainland china. In my family, my mon sometimes called me “smelly, dog shit" instead of sweets. So do some of my friends. I do not feel it is offensive and impolite, but i feel much closer to them. I did not even think to mean everyone here by using my previous public name. Instead, i really would like to help people who are studying Chinese. As i can tell, i have totally different background and culture. Again, I am sorry that my name waste your time!

dear teapot your willingness to change your user name at our request reflects a genuinely good heart, and for that, i thank you deeply :-) of course close friends and family can call each other anything they want without taking offense in a public forum/community like this, however, it's best not to use offensive language besides, "teapot" is so much more becoming of a lady

Dogshit is my friend. It is a long running joke and I guess she didn't know that it had bad connotations. it came from my mom mispronouncing her name from guo3 shi2 to gou3 shi4.
