I don't understand why some chinese rush one year in advance to buy a ticket for the World Expo.

"Till the end of the year, the peak day ticket costs 180 yuan, and the standard single-day ticket, 140. Tickets will cost 20 yuan more during the expo."

That's only 12% discount on the futur 160 Yuan ticket and 10% on the 200 Yuan ticket.

Do they expect a shortage of ticket ?

Hi kimiik

There is a simple reason for that. The broad-minded Chinese authorities just want to give one year of R&D/production/promotion period to ticket-counterfeit rings.

The blue-colored not-cool guy in the photo is the mascot of Shanghai Expo, 海宝 (hai3 bao3). Here is an article about it in John's blog "Sinosplice".

Did you know that I saw the HaiBao mascot standing all alone at the entrance of the Yuyuan Garden (豫园) in Shanghai last year (june 2008) ?

Very few people were taking pictures in front of him.

It was a bit out of place which is quite uncommon in China.
