第八届汉语桥——世界大学生中文比赛The 8th Chinese Bridge——Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students

Looking back, we met chale here and knew her charming son Nick who had taken part in the competition last year! A great mom and a talented son. We had a very wonderful experience with them. I watched the live opening ceremony of the 8th Chinese Bridge——Chinese proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students tonight. It was a wonderful show and i really enjoyed it. Songs, dance and kongfu，they are all about Chinese culture! I strongly recommend you to listen the theme song《汉语桥》，the lyrics are amazing!
Chinese Bridge changed last year's contestants' life. The winner, the black pearl欧丽莲，she is now studying in清华University. 李慕白got a chance to being a host and work for the Hunan Tv. (Such a good news,congratulations!) And Matt阿麦, our great cpod product manager, he has his own colorful stories too!^_^ Since we have so many good examples at hand, i wish all those contestants can make them dream come true! 加油!
Btw, I wonder if there are some poddies take this competition this year? If so, share your story here with us please!

恩，是的，从各个赛区选出来的优秀选手总共有一百多名，他们到中国还需要进行几轮的复赛才能进入最后的总决赛。明天中午，湖南卫视就会播出第一场复赛，到时候我会认真关注的！

你说的对。虽然说赢得比赛不像想象中的那么容易，但是我们中国有句话说“友谊第一，比赛第二”，结果不重要，重在参与嘛！^_^

我同意。两年前我也参加了。我有点儿后悔了，因为我准备得好多不过最后我当最后一个. The first part I got decent marks which was a free monologue where I in a fun way talked about learning Chinese (for instance I in an innocent foreigner's way tried to apply the 儿-声 to words where one wasn't supposed to such as 现在几点儿呢？和 你真讨厌儿). I got tons of laughs (一点儿独步谦虚) but the three people who out of the 6 people (Switzerland is a small country) got the highest marks just read from a piece of paper a complicated letter/essay they had once written. Although at a high level, it was against the rules of presenting it off by heart...didn't bother the judges. The second part of answering questions about minorities. That was a disaster...don't get me wrong...I like lots of parts of Chinese culture but learning stuff about 50 minorities such as in which province does the third smallest minority live 无聊得不行。。。。我觉得中国人也不会知道。第三个部分是表演一个有中国文化的特色，比如说中国武术还是写词儿。I recited a poem in that weird old way of talking (my wife taught me). My performance got low marks because I was finished really quickly as the poem only had about 8 or 12 lines. The people who scored high were the people who sang a song with a karaoke machine.
Having said all that, it is impressive to see how well some people can speak Chinese with my wife even admitting that with only hearing them she can't tell them apart from native Chinese. 加油 to anyone who wants to participate!

July 17, 2009, 03:06 AMWinning a prize at the 汉语桥 competition is not so easy because it takes not only a fairly good command of Chinese but also the ability to play a "good/beloved" (and harmless) foreigner.

真的是外国人的科举。。。得准备得太多了。而且如果你的中文和我的一样不好，那就算最高的科举因为那个一两百的问题都使用中文的。。。:P

July 20, 2009, 01:50 AM我很担心HSK汉语水平考试将来会要求外国考生唱中文歌！顺便说一下，据说今年开始的“新HSK考试”很重视口语表达能力。HSK的门槛越来越高哇！

谢谢你和我们分享你的故事，很可惜汉语桥比赛是从去年起才由传媒介入传播，虽然我们没能看到你的表演，但是我相信肯定也很精彩!每个人都有每个人的精彩嘛，呵呵！^_^

你应该说还好不用看我的表现。哈哈
我不知道他们现在怎么做呢不过我做的时候是每一个国家有那个比赛。赢了那个国家的，你就可以去中国参加。我觉得应该是从这个第二个部分开始中国电视台才觉得合适。要不然太多了吧而且那儿的外国人才说得好。
网上也可以看今年的节目吗？ 在瑞士我们就有cctv4。。。它老广播新闻。。。有点儿没意思。

你真辛苦了！I think the problem is that a lot of Chinese people probably expect contestants to play another "大山", who is a typical "good" western guy here in the PRC, hehe.

Looks like that 汉语桥 is a kind of 科举 for foreign people!
