I am interested in this group but I am afraid my Chinese level will shock you. I have been in China for 4 years but only decided to study the language now. I can understand about 70% but my spoken Chinese needs a lot of improvement and so does my grammar. I speak a lot though, especially with taxi drivers as I feel quite relaxed with them. However, with colleagues and students I am afraid to open my mouth.

How can I improve my Chinese?

I feel quite ashamed as I am a linguist (MA and PhD) and I speak 9 languages but this one is really a handful.

It is just the same thing as many Chinese students would ask  how to learn English.

You have a good foundation in learning Chinese, the very important thing to improve it is: just speak out. You may think: ha, it's easy said than done, but only after you speak out, you could find out the mistakes and so that people could help you.

just keep saying, don't worry about the grammar mistakes and the pronunciation, 反正痛苦的又不是你 O(∩_∩)O~
