Im also from canada (a university student) and I've never in my life heard anyone refer to the washrooms as little girls or little boys room, so keep in mind ymmv since no one from the younger generation uses that imo. We simply refer to it as washroom because the former is just weird... same with powdering my nose. also I feel I have a distinct association of lavatory with airplane washrooms and no where else besides that

Second this, I also asked some university friends  and they think it's awkward to use. Perhaps they should clarify that.

I asked my Chinese friends and they some of them agree that chi le mei is a bit awkward and not used anymore. I asked them if they agreed that it was used not literally to ask if your hungry but enquire about ones well being. One of them said it's more used by their mother. Is this true is it used less frequently now and never with friends?
