Last year China hosted the ITU International World Triathlon competition for sprint and Olympic distance triathletes. It was held at the Olympic venue, San Shi Ling, north of BJ.
Seventeen of us went to China for the two day event. Four among us were competing in their age groups, the rest were family and supporters. Many wanted to compete but didn't make it due to injuries, poor qualifying times, lack of perseverance, etc.
The competitors spent months preparing and planning for the event, building a strong base of endurance and strength in the pool, on the bike and on the road. Training also included many hours practicing transitions and doing "bricks" to prepare their muscles to jump from one event to the next ... it's not that easy to roll off your bike and immediately begin running!
My sister was one of the competitors and she truly is a Super Woman finishing 12th in the world in her age group. Now she is now training for her first full "Ironman" consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and a marathon of 26.2 miles... in that order and without a break.
I am posting this to provide some more triathlon related commonly used words and phrases that you might incorporate into a future lesson.
