Instead of 个 can you use 位 as the measure word? Is it more common to use 个　or 位 in this circumstance?

I came across 青 today,it's a colour, which is similar to 请. I was wondering about characters in Chinese, when they appear similar are they pronounced the same but with a different tone. Like 吗和妈？

Does the colour 青 have anything to do with politeness?
