In the expansion sentence:
最近节目没什么新意，难怪收视率会下降。
I'm trying to understand how "会", which normally carries a sense of future or ability, here carries the progressive and perfect aspect meaning (= "has been"). I'm sure it's related to the "最近" and "没" in the first part of the sentence, but I'm not sure what the rule is.

我是托朋友从国外买的。
Why is the 是...的 pattern translated with a present progressive rather than past? Is there something about the sentence that makes it clear that it has not already happened?
(And how do I adjust font size in the comment? :) )

March 18, 2012 at 4:21 AMIt seems like it's used the way "Really" is used nowadays in the US, espescially when it's set apart, and with a factual tone rather than question tone.
