Hi guys (and gals)!

I am always fascinated by the multiple uses of the word 打 so when I heard the phrase 打舌 I was hooked, however when I tried out the sentence, "我不会说西文,西文得打舌,我真学不会," my wife who was born and raised in China told me it sounded “有点儿奇怪。”

She recommended the phrase ”卷舌“ instead of ”打舌."

I wondered if this may be one of those things that people from Taiwan may say differently, so I also asked my tutor (who is Taiwanese) and she also recommended "卷舌“

So I am wondering if you could help me understand.  Is "打舌” a local / dialect-ical way of saying roll your tongue (saying the RRRR sound)?

Thank you!!

我同意 968278391 说的话!一份比萨320 RMB 太贵了!(I agree with him (or her)! 320 RMB for one pizza is too expensive.)

我是想问你们是在台湾或在大陆一份比萨加外送非,一共多少? (What I would like to ask you is, In Taiwan or in mainland China, 1 pizza plus delivery fee, in total costs how much?)

Also:  You mentioned 招牌菜 - Specialty Dish - Is this interchangeable with 拿手菜 ?I had previously learned this word to ask for the specialty dish(es) of a restaurant or to ask someone to make their own personal specialty dish.

Thank you!

Thank you for the interesting lesson.  I am a little confused about the 烘干机。When I hear this I am imagining a machine for drying clothes.  Is this actually a hand held hair dryer (blow dryer) in this case or one you would sit under to dry your hair (at the hair salon)?  Thank you!

Also

It seems there may be a small error in the pinyin and for the "tool tip" when you mouse over "调色盘“ where it simply indicates the ”调。”  Not a big problem but thought you may wish to know.

谢谢你们分享这堂课!我很喜欢你们做的视频!我有一个问题:At about 6:30 into the video you discussed the tone change rule for two third tones occurring in a row. In this case there are 3 third tones in a row, "你是几点打的?“ My understanding was that when there are 3 third tones in a row, such as "我很好“ the first two change to 2nd tone, however, in this case it does not sound as if this "rule" applies. Is this simply because of the way the sentence flows (in English I believe this is called "prosody" or the rhythm of speech). In other words there is a brief pause between 几点 and 打的 ? Perhaps I am not hearing this correctly. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

My understanding was that this type of tone change really only occurs when bu4 不 precedes another character which has the 4th tone.  So something like "passport" / 护照 / hùzhào remains 4-4 but something like "not correct" / 不对 / bùduì becomes bu2 dui4 (2-4).
