April 29, 2019 at 10:14 AMThere is also an episode of Qing Wen about this topic. Fiona and Constance give a very good explanation. 有意思!https://chinesepod.com/lessons/all-about-can-能-neng会-hui可以-keyǐ

January 3, 2019 at 11:50 AMYes, these are good examples where the sound effects add something to the dialogue. I think we're on the same page. In these situations, it helps to understand the context. But it also shows how difficult it is to find the right balance between supportive or distracting.

I think this is an interesting theme and a good learning opportunity, it would also be nice to make one that is more focused on China.
I agree with Schg and I want to add another point to that list:
5. Don’t forget the many requests to stop playing the background music. Why is this added to the dialogue of the video?
Please, remember that we are still learning the language. It’s so difficult to focus on what is said when music is played that does not add anything to the story. Moreover, English is not for everyone their mother tongue, so that gives some of us an extra challenge during listening to the dialogue and reading both the Chinese and English subtitles.
谢谢您

December 31, 2018 at 12:28 PMHi Elijah,
Thank you for sharing so much information with us!
I agree with you that you do not come very far with Pimsleur to learn a language, I mainly use Pimsleur to practice my pronunciation. Nice straight forward, listening and repeating for half an hour a day is a good muscle memory training (as you write elsewhere on the forum).
I also follow the CineseZeroToHero lessons and I really like the way they teach, I just finished hsk 3 and I passed the HSK 3 Hanban exam, continue with hsk 4 now. All topics from the standard course series are well treated and in the examples that are given there is a subtle humor that makes learning for adults fun.
I saw through this link (https://chinesezerotohero.teachable.com/courses) that the first hsk 6 lessons are available. There are also previews available.

December 27, 2018 at 11:21 AMHi mymandarincorner,
I respect your opinion but while studying Standard Course HSK 3 (Chapter 7) and visiting Chinese Grammar Wiki (https://resources.allsetlearning.com/chinese/grammar/Structure_of_times_(advanced)) and even at my weekly Chinese class they all mentioned ”差” and ”刻”. Is it really that uncommon? And even if so, I still like to learn the complete Chinese language. This website is called ChinesePod that’s why I expect more background information.
Kind regards
Robert

What about kè 刻 and chà 差
It's regrettable that you only deal with the very basis. Even in the recommended practice I can't find anything that adds more to it. You should at least tell us about the way a quarter to and past can be used. As a paying member, I expect to be able to learn more from you.
