July 5, 2011 at 11:12 PMUmm, this sounds so delicious and EZ, I'm making it tonight. Perfect for hot Beijing weather and to take to various work sites. Please more dialogues on how to craft Chinese dishes.
How about one of my favorites (for colder weather) - Chairman Mao's braised fatback pork with pickled veggies or some of the other local variations of this downhome Hunan dish!

May 10, 2011 at 11:52 PMSay, do handsome Chinese guys and attractive foreign females ever hook up in ChinesePod Universe. I suspect why Chinese Pod has episodes with Chinese women swooning over foreign guys has more to do with the "Rice Queen" syndrome than with the impact of movies. Chinese guys watch western movies, too.

April 28, 2011 at 2:40 AMI use Agricultural Bank of China and the transfers are usually recognized in my Bank of America account within 1 to 2 days (as "pending") and always funds fully on the third day. Been doing this over a year and a half now, never with problems.
My only gripe is that I can only convert rmb into $500 a day. So, this week, I had to send $2,500 back home and every day for 4 days, I converted rmb into USD. On the 5th day, I converted and also wire-transferred.
BTW - it's good to clump up into a larger wire-transfer, you get charged one fee going out and one fee from your bank for receiving.
You can always use Western Union nowadays, too.

July 16, 2010 at 5:21 AMYes - in my rental search, I've found many apts. without the tell-tale smell smoke of previous occupants. Also - there's nothing a good airing out won't accomplish even if there use to be smokers. Finally, not every Chinese smokes. Many are fitness-freaks and know the dangers. Good Luck!
Posted on: Making Dumplings
January 27, 2009 at 4:14 AMI believe Marco Polo actually bought dumplings and/or won-ton back to Italy and thus inspired ravioli. Any historians out there who can clarify this? I love eating them all, but it would be interesting to know which culture inspired the other. Or did China and Italy cross-fertilize -- rice, pasta, and dumpling cuisine?

June 2, 2008 at 4:29 AMYeah, folks trash-talk everywhere, but I think it would have been better to have chosen a phrase other than doggie doo stuff. Not the graphic image I want when I'm assiduously studying the dialogue over and over.
