::coughs:: As the most obsessed Trekker here, probably... ( I just received the veterans' discount at Avatar for saying I was in Starfleet ), I can't resist pointing out to some of the commenters that Chekov was not a Lieutenant in the original series (TOS)...

He was an Ensign.

I believe we first saw him as a Lieutenant in the 2270s (ST:TMP)

Actually, bodawei's question also occurred to me.

It is interesting that we have 一年没见 in this lesson and John says that the 没 pertains to a negation in the past. However, it also seems like the 不 in 好久不见 negates the past. Is this because they are interchangeable in the latter, or is the latter simply a phrase that has developed as an exception to the rule? ( Or is there no contradiction at all? )

Would be interested to hear any feedback.

I do have a question though. Some friends told me that I should use 去看看 for visiting ... like if I said you should visit Florida:

你應該去看看佛羅裡達

Is that correct? Does it have these multiple uses? Would there be a better word for 'visit'?

Is this the lesson that slandered Orlando, Florida? The best city in the Sunshine State? Home to the Magic Kingdom, and countless other places that fill the void created by fragmented ethical hierarchies of the postmodern world? :)

As the official (self-designated) Chief Orlando Poddie (COP), who just happens to live in Hong Kong, I would like to file a formal complaint against those who, ceteris paribus, would prefer to visit Sydney to Orlando, including Jenny.

In any case, if any of y'all ever do come down Orlando way, let me know. I will show you why it is a great place. :)

Please pardon the digression -- and unfortunately I'm only an Elementary / Intermediate level Chinesepod user, so forgive me my English:

America is a large place, and some places are better for your individual tastes than others. So-called "poorer" areas, or red states, have a lot of advantages over some coastal states, or blue states.

In Florida, where I am from, we tend to believe that private enterprise does most things, and provides most goods and services, far better and more efficiently than government. It's certainly hard to argue with in terms of history. However, some people do prefer welfare states, and imposing through coercion (income taxation) their arbitrary preferences on others.

As for me, I will take liberty any day. There is much to commend, yes, even those disgustingly evil and loathesome red / poorer inner states. And quite clearly, the coastal states would not be better off without the inner states if there were tariffs -- the US Constitution *mandates* free trade among the 50 states.

And the fight goes on. :)

Wow, so... after I learned the lesson today, I thought it was interesting, but not that useful. I suppose I am a little suspect on occasion when terms and phrases are termed "high frequency."

Well, a few minutes ago, I got a call from someone speaking Mandarin. I don't understand it that well yet, didn't make out what she said, and replied, "你打错了!" She seemed to understand and hang up!

So I am now humbled LOL. Thanks!
