I'm new to the boards here, but I have found that in my recent trip to the mountains with my Chinese teachers/exchange student group, we were specifically told to not exercise when we got off the bus at 3000 meters near JiuZhaiGou. Much to the chagrin of the teachers, I did make it out for a run within an hour of arriving and though it was hard to run at that altitude, I did enjoy a hot shower afterwards. I think it's the cold showers that wear you out, so perhaps if Tibet only offers cold showers, I'd do without for a couple days anyway!
