Amber, you're in NYC? I was there for last 2 weeks... too bad I didn't know you were in town...

Just realized that was back in November, never mind, and sorry for empty post, didn't know how to edit comments...

In my text book, for the third tone sandhi, it is explained that when 2 or more third tones appear together, all but the last third tone becomes a second tone, unless there is a pause in the sentence such as a comma.

Just wanted to confirm that it is indeed so, and we only say ni3 xi2 wan3 for emphasis, is that correct?

My first night in Beijing, as we driving to the place we were staying at, I was amused by the dozens of old men sitting at their porches and just standing around all with their tank tops pulled over their bellies.

It seems another socially accepted thing in China is for men to not wear a top no matter how big or hairy their gut is. (Maybe the more surface area you have, the better the heat loss? Hmm...)

Most of the time we cranked the hotel's AC to the point that we would bury ourselves with the blankets, and when staying at the apartment, we would just bear with it and not move or do anything.

Anyone else get headaches from a fan? (Those bigger electric ones)

Out of all the places I've been in China, I found Taiyuan to be the least bearable in terms of polution. After spending just 2 hours outside, I began coughing up black phlegm.

Beijing air actually felt clean after spending 2 weeks in Taiyuan.

Tianjin felt about the same as Beijing air, but a lot hotter.

The cleanest place was, of course, Jiuzhaigou & Huanglong. (So glad it survived the earthquake, but it looks like travel to there won't reopen for some time to come)

Can I say "I think I got it" by saying "我觉得知道了"

In Tianjin, while eating a dinner, I found that every my glass of Baijiu gets empty, the host always insists on refilling it.

Basically, if you don't want to get too drunk, keep the glass mostly full.

I witnessed some crazy tolerance for Baijiu from those people...

The de 的 is implied in some statements such as wo mama 我妈妈, wo pengyou 我朋友, and the such. wo+subject 我+主语 (zhu3yu3) implies the 的 in cases such as this.

Sorry, I'm not sure how to explain beyond this.
