November 17, 2010 at 5:32 PMReminds me of the unfortunate bike accident ON THE BIKE RIVERPATH in Taibei. I never rode there again; not like I could with a fractured hand and all.
My experience in Taiwan was very similar, except I discovered that instead of paying $2 to wait 3 hours in a line for 5-10 minutes of a doctor's time I could pay $9 to see a doctor right away at a private hospital (< 10 minutes waiting time). The doctor who put the pins in my hand did the surgery the evening after he diagnosed me and told me the surgery would cost a fortune since I didn't have national health insurance -- a whole $450 USD! Haha.... would have cost me a few thousand WITH insurance in the U.S.! Ironic since said doctor completed his residency at UCSD..........

January 23, 2011 at 11:37 AM我是《第三文化小孩》，意思是说我小的时候，我美国家庭在法国住和我的学校是国际的：一半的学生是法国人，每天也有法文课，然后一半的学生从许多国家来的。 十三岁回了美国。虽然我回美国以前感觉我是《美国人》，但是我真的有很大的 "reverse culture shock"， 快发现了我不感觉美国人，也不是法国人，所以我的国籍是什么？有人觉得这个是不好的情况。反过来说，我也发现了，我的优点比美国高中学生的多。比方说，我说法语说得流利，还有学别的语言的能力也很高。什么语言都可以学得快，学得好。法国国际学校的老师对我影响很大。他们都研究所毕业了，大部分的老师教自己的专业：历史，文学，数学，等。最后，同学也很少，上课的时候可能有十到二十个同学一下。在美国高中学，我很成功，我个人觉得是因为美国的比国际的容易，也是因为国际学校强调《多种的环境》的原因所以没问题上美国大学（其实我也获得奖学金）。现在，我跟国际学校同学都是好朋友；我们常常在facebook见面：我的同学在二十多国家住！
最后，我的家是在柏林和北京，可是我没有《老家》，也不是一个问题。我的丈夫是西班牙人，但是我们一起说英文。我刚开始学德语，西班牙语，也为了博士毕业写完，不断学汉语。:)
所以，对我来说，由于国际学校价格，真的很高，但是真的是值得。
