The 慢 actually helped me, one of the things that I mistakenly think about fourth tone is that just saying it quick makes it a fourth tone. This is not true.. I still need that decrease in tone.
When Jenny made the reference to 慢 and mad it made me thinking of someone saying "Man!" in frustration. "Man! That sucks!" When you draw out saying Man! for me in this context it makes the perfect fourth tone. (in fact even the "sucks" part comes out in a perfect fourth tone)
