Posted on: Do You Have Any Questions?
August 4, 2012 at 12:42 AMI was just reviewing this lesson today, and it got me wondering...
My friend speaks Guangzhou Hua, which is SO different than mandarin, but she told me that her father also speaks Shanghainese.
How similar to Mandarin is the dialect of Shanghai? Is it as unique and complex as Cantonese is?

July 24, 2012 at 1:06 AMAwesome lesson. Please tell us about the bus in Beijing!
In my family's town in Italy (and many other towns too) it is believed that it was the work of the Devil to write with your left hand. Whenever my dad did so my grandmother would smack his wrist with a wooden spoon! People don't really care as much today.
It worked out though, he is ambidextrous now :)

July 23, 2012 at 1:31 AMGreat lesson, I was wondering about the "same sound different character" thing, and this helped answer my questions. I wonder how common it is in China to have a name after something like 雨?
It adds a level of elegance that isn't really clear in western names (unless you look up their respective latin roots I suppose...).
谢谢!

July 20, 2012 at 1:31 AMBodawei, just saw that and cracked up xD The phrase is actually finding a new life here in my community, and I typed it without thinking. I'm far from aged, but then again I am an old soul!
谢谢 :)
Thanks for the heads up vivace! And here I was hoping to meet my soul mate through a yahoo email account, just like in the movies!
Posted on: What Does This Word Mean?
July 19, 2012 at 3:09 AMDeleted previous post, found the original comment:
"Last week, a piece of hardware that runs our Academic Management System broke and when restoring it, we used a new program to generate PDF's. We apologize for the size and display issues. We are working on resolving them."
I'm sure they are doing their best to fix the problem. At least we still have the pinyin right? A little patience and i'm sure it will be back to normal in no time. :)
