Anyone know the name of the machine that updates your savings passbook? And what is the passbook called in Chinese.

Last question: How do you ask the staff to help you update the passbook? Thnks.

Living in Hong Kong mean's we are spolied for choice when it comes to wine because all imports are now tax free. I find good Australian wines are cheaper in Hong Kong than in Australia!

So it's always a dissapointment when trying to buy wine in China. Even the locally produced Chinese wines are more expensive than a nice imported bottle in Hong Kong. Answer: sneak a couple of bottles in your suitcase when going to China

Thanks Emily for the update on the Toastmasters scene in China. I hadn't realised there were 70 or so clubs over there. Hong Kong has 30 or so with a lot being Putonghua and multi lingual so Cantonese speakers can improve their Putonghua

Thanks Amber 演讲 会  i guess it would be shortened to.

Pinkjeans - that' why Toastmaster exists - to help people get over their fear of public speaking - perhaps you could visit a meeting sometime?

In Hong Kong I go to a Toastmasters Club to practice public speaking. In Cantonese it's called Yin Gong Wui. What is it in Putonghua?

I checked with my Cantonese wife if they have AA in Hong Kong. They call it AA jai and it's very common. I can't believe I've never heard it mentioned in my 15 years in Hong Kong!
