September 8, 2009 at 5:08 AMHmm ... Perhaps we should mention that cross-pollination is technically how plants of one species reproduce with plants of another species, i. e., the wind, birds and bees will carry the pollen from male reproductive organ of one plant to the female reproductive organ of another plant, thus creating a more diverse plant population.
Pete used it as a metaphor for diverse groups sharing knowledge with one another.

September 1, 2009 at 4:19 PMIt's interesting that here in the US as mentioned above 酒家 is fairly universally used for restaurants. I've seen this in Paris too, e. g., 红西酒家,五月酒家,金岛酒家,etc.

纯素食 chun2su4shi2 is vegan food. 纯 has the sense of pure.
纯素食者 (zhe3) is a vegan person like yourself. So, there is at least the distinction.
I'm not sure what 我吃素 implies with respect to the purity of the sauces.

July 22, 2009 at 5:47 PM大家好!
好久不见 (-:
We've (my wife and I) been traveling. We began in Moscow and then took a river boat to St. Petersburg. Super trip. We are now in London for a week before returning home, and so we've great free wifi in our hotel.
It's nice to know I found this lesson to be clear and easy after almost three weeks w/o studying.
We'll be in 上海 next Spring and maybe we can play this game with a few members of the CPod staff !!
Kindest regards from 伦敦,
Bill

June 27, 2009 at 5:47 PMSince we are into "Mickey Mouse," there is an expression many non-native English speakers may not know: That's "Mickey Mouse !" It means easy, or trivial.
One often speaks of the "Mickey Mouse" classes one can take at a University for example.

PS> weibwo: 你对了! It was indeed Steamboat Willie.

June 27, 2009 at 4:37 PMA note on Mickey Mouse: The Disney Corporation celebrates his birthday as November 18, 1928. Because of the historical significance of cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse, I'm tempted to ask 米老鼠有多少年的历史?
And for me I would certainly ask:
温布尔登网球公开赛有多少年的历史?好的。我马上就要看电视!(-:

June 16, 2009 at 6:28 PMAn excellent lesson. I do note that all of the grammar points have been covered in previous 请问.
CPod's combination of teaching methods is first class+.
Otherwise, speaking of fast delivery, prior to FedX et. al., San Francisco businesses used bicycle messengers. These individuals had guaranteed delivery times in the City that were usually between 10 and 20 minutes. Admittedly, they took lots of chances in traffic and "one way street" had no meaning for them.
Yet, I don't recall a single accident. The one bicycle messenger I knew was in super condition. You only need to think about the hills in San Francisco to understand why.

Allow me to rewrite parts what you have written above:
and if you use a man's fashing bag, we call it “包" too.
And not only do we call the "plastic bag"(塑料袋 su4 liao4 dai4) "袋子," but also all of the bags that seem like plastic bags are called "袋子." We do this no matter what it is made from, for example, cloth or paper.
This is a little better.
