davidhshanghai, Try: http://www.mdbg.net/ Use their online dictionary and follow your "nose" so to speak. Look up a character to begin. They animate each character and draw the radical in red. Full definitions are given. 这是免费! But, remember, the Chinese Pod dictionary gives usage examples. I can't find an equivalent on the web. Incredibly valuable learning resource. Bill

Hi Jenny, Enjoying the sun for sure. Something pretty funny happened at the hotel restaurant tonight. We always take our daughter, and her family with us to Hawaii, and our grandson who is 3 took his superman family and dunked them in his 冰淇淋 !Gave them a cold swim so he said. The 服务员 really laughed. Very laid back here. OK. I need to practice 我的中文 (-: Bill

我们也下礼拜去夏威夷。我们每年两次去那儿。(Is that how I say "we go there two times every year?" Funny, I'm co-chairing a workshop in Kona at HICSS-41. Is this where you are going Henning? I've been doing this for several years now. I always take my family (妻子, 女儿, 女儿的丈夫和他们的孩子). 总是很好玩。 Bill

Seems to me that in the supplementary vocabulary 男的 means "male" and nǚde female, and that 男人 and nǚren2 are more general and can mean man/male and woman/female, respectively. Perhaps, I'm being too literal, and that in the spoken language they are all used interchangeably. 我不知道 (wo3bu4zhi1dao4 - I don't know).

With respect to "terrible" in French: One can say, "C'est terrible!" This actually means extraordinary, or super in this context, and this case is slang. It's much like saying, "That dude is BAD!" which means really cool. In French "Terrible" like in English literally means horrible, or something that inspires terror. Bill

晚上好!这里现在是十点十五。网球!我爱网球!Yes, I am a tennis fanatic of sorts. I play 3 times a week and for about 25 years now. This past summer my wife and I had free tickets to Wimbledon for the quarter and semi-finals. Row 15 center court: Roger Federer, Raphael Nadal, the Williams Sisters, Li Na, etc. etc. We saw them all ! 是的。Jenny 对 )-: The real problem is the US Open begins on August 25th, and Olympic tennis is around August 10th. Add to that jet lag and that the winner of the US Open pulls down more than $1,000,000. Our guy, Roger Federer, only needs to win 2 grand slams to break Pete Sampras' record. There's a good chance he'll do this next year. The US OPen is the 4th grand slam. Still, Roger would like to add the 奥运金牌 to his trophy case, and as you said, he is very patriotic too! Also, since it's very important to play tough matches before the US Open to stay in "match form" and the timing of the Olympics is just about right since there is enough time to recover for the US Open, I'd say: 所以Jenny, 别灰心. 好的在后面. 也下个十一月在上海有网球大师杯赛!
