We had to wait in the hotel in Chengdu, and did not know until 2 hours before the flight whether we could go or not. We had to take a Chinese guide along with the Tibetan driver who drove us around Tibet in a jeep. The tension between the two was obvious. We hardly met any foreigners in Tibet at that time. My sister who planned the same trip beginning 1989, was not allowed to enter Tibet, and changed her plans to The silk route and Mongolia. Het father in law was ambassador in Beijing at that time, but even he couldn't help them get in.

I visited Tibet in 1988. When I arrived in Lhasa by plane I almost immediately got sick and had to stay in bed for 32 hours (bad headache mainly) but then I felt ok and visited the region for 7 days (Gyantse, Shigatse...) in a jeep. It was amazingly beautiful. There was lots of static electricity, beercans exploding, difficult breathing and slow stairclimbing. And driving around did make me sick again, but it was worth every single second!

We (our chinese class) went to see a live performance of "The legend of the white serpent" in Antwerp (Europalia China). We had some preparation beforehand, and enjoyed the performance very much. It was in an old opera hall (Bourla - very beautiful setting). The acrobacy was amazing!

There where chinese subtitles on each side of the scene, and that helped a lot.

说的对。潘基文真是个才人! I have great respect for his language skills. And I can only hope to master chinese in a way that won't embarras me in public. Still a long way to go...

我刚来听了潘基文说的法语。 说的很好。一点儿跟英国人一样。

I am a single mum, with three children(one disabled)a fulltime job, practising 太极拳 and other sports, so busy busy busy... but I find time to learn chinese. Why? Because I can, because it's the most spoken language in the world, because after visiting China in 1988 I just could not let go of it. I started learning chinese on my own while living in Africa. Now I go to night class (we have a teacher from Shanghai) and study on CPod because the enthousiasm of the CPod team and you 同学 is sooo addictive.

I don't worry to much about grammar and structure and tones. I just dive into it and feel the language and somehow that works great for me.

Listening daily to these 对话 gives me a large advantage over my nightclass 同学.

No problem finding chinese newspapers in Antwerp or Brussels (for free in chinese stores) available even in Hasselt. Frank, I took a look at your pictures, they are amazingly beautifull!
