October 26, 2010 at 8:00 AMA good lesson would be: Don't speak Chinese to a taxi driver when you don't feel like talking for 20 mins. I speak Chinese fairly well, and every time I get in a cab and state my location they say "your chinese is so good" and proceed to talk to you about everything the last 1000 taxi drivers talked to you about. I guess its good for people who need free lessons in the same things everyday, but I wish they had a mute button on cabbies.
As for the motorcycle taxis, I love them, they are more convenient, economical, and you dont have to talk to them usually. The wind is so much nicer than a hot taxi that wont turn on AC because he is trying to save gas.

October 26, 2010 at 9:20 AMIt comes with time I guess, I have been here for 7 years but have not studied at all. My spoken Chinese is great but I still cant read much at all. I wish I had taken the time to learn to read. Its so hard (BORING) to go back and learn to read things that you have been able to say for years.
My lesson of the day: Dont just listen to the lessons and learn the pinyin, do your best to learn the characters at the same time or you will end up like me.
