May 14, 2008 at 3:24 AMdarylk, my understanding is that you can use either or both (ruguo / dehua) in most instances. I'm certainly no expert, but it seems that ruguo is most common, with dehua being next most common, followed by both together in terms of frequency of usage. May 2, 2008 at 1:34 AM这是我第一次听一个高中级课程。因为我的水平很臭所以有很多地方我不明白了但是我还觉得很有用啊。 John，我也发现了你说的比中级课程很多中文。真棒！ (Sorry about my error-laden 汉语,any corrections are more than welcome) It seems that in the vocabulary/fix sections, 意念 is listed as "willpower" when, in fact, you and Jenny discuss quite clearly how, although it has a broad scope, 意念 cannot be accurately translated as "willpower but is closer to "idea" or "thought" and that 毅力 is a much better translation of "willpower". I have noticed that in many other transcripts （at the intermediate level）there often seems to be a disconnect between what is discussed in the podcast and the definitions chosen in the vocabulary sections for each lesson. It's as though somebody else on the staff is providing the definitions who might not have even listened to the podcast to provide the right context! That being said, I would just like to say how lucky I feel to have you guys guiding me on my learning journey. You guys are the best and yet somehow keep getting better.

January 22, 2008 at 12:33 AMClay, I was in Hawaii when this very podcast came out and went to Chinatown. Stopped by the bookstore there (Dragon Gate?) and hit the shops a bit. Did I read or hear somewhere that you went to school at U of H? I must say, I heard a lot of what I believe was Cantonese and very little Mandarin. Is this typical of there?

I have a 20 month girl (more of a yoga and gymnastics, recently turned stunt toddler) CPO of my own who runs my life most of the time. ST is very lucky to have you as an auntie.
