Yes, I am 1/4 American Indian, and when I am Stateside I live about two minutes from White Earth Indian Reservation.

Want to compare American Indians to Chinese ? Okay, let's go ahead and say for arguments sake they are exactly even, time length-wise. In that time the Chinese created the concept of "Mandate of Heaven", I-Ching, the Great Wall, Acupuncture, silk, refined steel and bronze.

And the American Indians created ... ?

A need for endless public assistance and law enforcement programs.

I've also been under the impression 太太 meant "wife".

I do not get to spend much time in small towns in China, only larger cities.  Is this more prelevant in rural areas ?  It seems to be very rare in Shenyang.

I've never seen it as "to trap", but I know it also means "fasten together". Perhaps you are thinking of 圈套 ?

I've had a touch of indigestion in China before, but never food poisoning...  but then there have been several places I've walked out of after looking or smelling around.

My experience with "formal" dinners is toasting goes back and forth. The most prominent person toasts first, then the person to their right, next time is the person to their left until it goes around the table. The nice thing about this is it gives you advanced warning and time to come up with something fresh.
