December 13, 2011 at 8:55 AMOne of the most notable times I remember being called 老外 was on a side street off the Bund. What was suprising wasn't being called that, but that I was living in 长春 and wouldn't have expected in Shanghai. My guess is that the Chinese couple who called me that were just as new to Shanghai as I was and probably had never seen so many foreigners before.
