Also, would someone please give some examples of when to use 漂亮 piàoliang (pretty/beautiful) vs. 美丽 měilì (beautiful)? Or are they interchangeable?

Unfortunately, the link for the PDF is broken (both PDF and HTML). I checked back on the the "Hui / Neng" QW and the PDF for that one was incomplete.
Connie, when you have time, would you please provide the dialogue? Thank you!

September 3, 2008 at 11:48 PMhape, I think (not positive though) that the 1127 also includes QW, DA, and MM lessons, which all have a different numbering system than the regular "levels" lessons.

ZDT (Zhongwen Development Tool) is a good desktop tool. The translation functionality isn't as good as MDBG, but it has other nice features like customizable flash cards, hanzi to pinyin annotator, and a lot more.
There are many other great resources I'm sure others could provide as well.

I have mixed feelings about the trad./simp. debate, but overall I think the current systems are fine. Either way, learning hanzi is challenging (yet rewarding)!

September 3, 2008 at 1:53 PMTvan, I recently read an online article (can't remember where) stating that some Asian countries (Korea, Japan, Taiwan, HK, etc.) have setup conferences with China, to eventually phase out simplified characters and restore traditional.
It stated that there had been too many miscommunications, misunderstandings, and errors in cultural studies, business writings, etc. in the past few decades since the simplified system was implemented.
I'm not sure how much water that holds, but it was an interesting read. I did look at the article date and it was within the past few months.
I guess reverting back to traditional would create a whole other mess.
