In the expansion exercises, the use of guo4qi1 for both past its expired date and gone bad or gone off could be a little confusing -- is there a distinction in Chinese for the understanding that the expiry date, and whether the food item has really gone off, are different?
We know that when the expiry date has passed, food items have not actually 'gone bad'.
Since qi1 means date, then how can we otherwise say this food is spoiled?
