Hi alexyu_yxi,

Hi user6278,

Thanks for the precious info. How did you find that? Unfortunately, I can't access the first URL you've shown, but I've managed to find a bit of info on the net. He is a high-ranked officer and a poet in the era of Qing dynasty. Am I right? Anyway, it seems that he is NOT as famous as 李白, haha.

Hi belindaergib

Sorry, I was wrong. In modern Mandarin, it seems that "润" and "心" can rhyme, both of which belong to the same rhyme entry "人辰". But "园" and "乡" still belong to different entries, i.e. "言前" and "江阳" respectively. In short, in the poem, the first two character "润" and "心" rhyme in putonghua, but others not. Anyway, I don't think that the four characters can rhyme according to classical rhyming rules.

P/S. Probably there are a lot of "exceptions" and "flexibility" in making poems, haha.

The third map, 四川人眼中的中国地图, in the linked page is much more hilarious (and innocent) than the two introduced in the lesson. My region, 东北地区, is "classified" as "菜量很足". Haha, I agree with this observation, although I don't know much about cuisines/dishes in other regions.

Hi belindaergib

The poem you've shown above is incredibly easy to understand. I just wish all the Chinese poems would also be as easy as that, haha. And, interestingly enough, none of the last characters in the four lines rhymes. The four characters, 润, 心, 园, and 乡, all belong to different rhyme entries both in 广韵 and even in 平水韵 (诗韵), which are representative classical Chinese rhyme books. Of course, they don't rhyme in modern Mandarin, either. Where did you find the poem?

P/S. Maybe barto will help us.

Thank you for a timely expansion sentence "你给小狗洗澡了吗?" (Have you washed the dog?) This reminds me, 我好久没给小狗洗澡了!I will wash her tomorrow.

Hi barto,

詞 are lyrics, they're meant to be recited with music.

Now I understand why my beloved 邓丽君 sings a lot of songs featuring 宋词, such as 但愿人长久 and 楼上西楼. Their lyrics were originally recited with music! Thanks!
