June 6, 2010 at 3:47 PMForgive my ignorance, but what exactly does "cursive" mean? Is it just a term for handwriting as opposed to typing? Can we also apply this term to English writing or is it just a term used in reference to Hanzi?
Thanks, Chris

June 6, 2010 at 1:16 PMI've finally come out of my work busy season (which covered the whole dashboard introduction period) and am hitting my backlog of lessons from last 5 months hard this weekend. Coincidentally, I was just thinking the very same thing as mentioned by catherine and zhenlijiang above earlier today. Good to know some fellow users have already fed this issue back to CPod. Count me in as wanting this feature on the lesson page itself returned to us!

June 6, 2010 at 11:57 AMThe team used 看(kàn) as an example of a single character verb and the example sentence used 看了看。
In the next sentence when 爱(ài) was the single character, I was expecting it simply to be 爱了爱. However, Connie came out with: 我们互相爱着对方(wǒmen hùxiāng ài zhe duìfāng). Could we simply have said: 我们互相爱了爱(wǒmen hùxiāng ài le ài)?
Thanks, Chris

May 25, 2010 at 2:58 PMHi Connie, is it also possible to say:
我在北京到了 wǒ zài běijīng dào le
This is how I've always said it when I pop up to Beijing, but I'm now worried that I've been saying it incorrectly all this time!

May 18, 2010 at 3:01 PMI wouldn't say I've noticed any significant increase in the number of people generally out and about in Shanghai since Expo kicked off, but I've definitely sensed a marked increase in foreigners in last few weeks. I've been here coming up for 4 years now and whilst the laowai population seems to have been steadily increasing over that period, I was talking with my mates the other day that it does seem to have spiked in recent weeks and we put it down to Expo.

It's the same in PRC. Every time my wife checks her shareholdings I get a heartattack seeing the majority of red on the screen. Have to keep reminding myself that red means good. Makes me wonder why traffic lights here aren't similarly inverted.....

February 18, 2010 at 3:24 PMThe God of Wealth is clearly smiling on the Shanghainese. 360 degree views from 23rd floor apartment were taken up by fireworks for several consecutive hours last night, and not just the cheapy ones we used to have on Bonfire Night back home in the back garden! The mind boggles at the cost of it all! I also think 23F is about perfect height for viewing - pretty much bang on where the fireworks tend to explode!
