April 12, 2020, 05:39 AMI know I am a few years late, but 任凭 translated as no matter what here doesn't really suit the dialogue. After doing some research, here I would think that 任凭 is more like 听凭, meaning allow.

December 03, 2018, 10:55 PM这节课让我想到我一直烦恼的问题，那就是调侃这个词。我发现中文有很多可以翻译成to make fun of/mock的词，比如说：嘲笑、侮辱、屈辱、笑话、取笑、等等。我想这些都有不一样的地方，屈辱和侮辱都比较严重是不是？调侃是不是比较中性的？
