Am I right in saying that tong4 can be substituted in the dialogue with teng2 without any difference in meaning and without it sounding strange to native ears?

Thanks Helen, and what about 移？So if I send some from money overseas to a bank account in China, can I use both 我上周把一些英镑汇过来了 and 我上周把一些英镑转过了. Are both correct?

When transferring money from overseas into a Chinese account, if you leave it in the original currency (British pounds for example), you get a better rate when you then exchange it within China.

When I do this and ask for the rate, they tell me the rate is hui4hu4de. So 'to transfer' can be 汇 （hui4= remit), but I have also heard zhuan3 转，and yi2 移=move. So for example I have heard 汇过来， 转过来， 移到她的帐户。

Here is my question: Can these be freely used interchangeably or are words like hui4 reserved for overseas transfers, zhuan3 for account to account transfers etc which are the contexts I have heard them spoken in?

Oh...just another question has come to mind. Does that mean that 'routine check up' is 常规检查？ Or is it not said in that way? Also, in Chinese, can you use the word 'routine' as in 'this is a routine operation, nothing to worry about'? Thanks again in advance.

Thanks guys. So mnay words for plaque...!!! what is the one most commonly used I wonder? Mouthwash I found out is shu4kou3shui3 漱口水。I'd still like to know how to say, 'How much does it cost to see a hygienist for a routine clean?' if anyone could help.

Great lesson! How do I say 'plaque' e.g. 'how do I get rid of/control plaque';  'to drill' e.g. 'do you have to drill'; hygienist e.g. How much does it cost to see the hygienist for a routine clean?; 'dental mouthwash'?
