Could someone tell me, in the following Expansion sentence:

我腿上有伤,这几天不能走路.

Wŏ tuĭ shàng yŏu shāng, zhè jĭ tiān bù néng zŏulù.

My leg is injured. I will not be able to walk for a few days.

what does the shàng 上 refer to? Is it necessary?

raygo, Thanks for your answer. It does make sense when I take the time to think about it. Guess I asked a bit early. Thanks also for your answer re kuai. I guess I will have to find other examples where it is used in this sense, so I can get it clear in my head. A bit confused about the Bob, almost didn't read your post.

In the expansion sentence

我有事儿找他。

Wŏ yŏu shìr zhăo tā.

I have something to talk about with him.

how does the zhăo relate to the translation given?

In the expansion sentence

我快渴死了。

Wŏ kuài kĕ sĭ le.

I'm so thirsty I'm going to die.

what does the kuài mean? I don't understand how 'fast' or 'quickly' could mean anything in this sentence.

Thanks changye,

I kind of get it. When I see a large phrase before a de, like this, it takes me ages to figure out what is being said. Then when they leave out the noun, I'm gone. And this is after sitting down and spending time analysing the writing. I don't know how I will ever understand this sort of thing when it is spoken to me. I wonder how many people here can say they pick up these phrases first time they are said, without a problem.

Just pointing out a slight error on your Expansion page.

You have two sentences:

他怎么了?Tā zĕnmele? What is the matter with him?

她怎么了?Tā zĕnmele? What is the matter with her?

The second is in the correct place under the heading 怎么了.

The first is misplaced under the heading  对不起.

Also,

我对花生不过敏。Wŏ duì huāshēng bù guòmĭn. I am not allergic to peanuts.

is under the wrong heading.

Sorry shenyajin,

I meant to ask - what is the purpose of the first de?

I understand the second one.

Also in the Expansion:

在李先生家前面的是什么?是便利店。

Zài Lĭ xiānshēng jia qiánmian de shì shénme?  Shì ???

What is in front of Mr. Li's home? A convenience store.

My online dictionary says the 便利店  is  gènglì diàn, but then says the first two characters  便利  are pronounced  biànlì  (convenient; easy; facilitate).

What is going on here? It makes things difficult when there is no pinyin supplied.

In the Expansion sentence:

在公园前面的是张小姐的家。

Zài gōngyuán qiánmian de shì Zhāng xiăojie de jiā.

It's Miss Zhang's home that is in front of the park.

what is the purpose of the 的 (de). I don't see a possessive here, nor a shi...de.  Could it be left out?
