Hey passionprophet,

Thanks for the explanation and for that link! I appreciate it; you're a gentleman.

hi teachbeachsyd,

haha, you're funny. I do complain a lot(in general).  I assume your Austrailian. What makes you want to learn Chinese?

I have a question. I've been listening to quite a few previous lessons during the last couple of days and I just noticed that the phrase"你懂什么?" seems to come up a lot. I'm curious as to whether this is a common phrase in Shanghai because I've never heard anyone actually say it during the last five years that I've been studying Chinese. Is it popular/trendy phrase in Shanghai? I realize that it means "what do you know?" , but I've never heard anyone say it, except in the lessons on this site.

Interesting podcast. I would have liked to hear more from the lady who worked in the sweatshop. I think we only heard her say one or two sentences. In most interviews, the interviewee gets more than one or two chances to say something.

personally I thought this one was too elementary and had too much english. Connie seems to be the only one who speaks Chinese during the lesson and 1/3 isn't enough, if you ask me. I think that this same exact lesson could have had something for everyone, if there were some more advanced example sentences. The way it is right now, it only caters to beginners and elementary level students.

I've lived in Taiwan and ate lots of food. I can honestly say that food in Taiwan SUCKS.

I've also traveled all over China; the food in the mainland is 10 times better and much much cheaper. In addition to that, most Chinese restaurants in Taiwan aren't traditional at all(employees dress western and the food tastes westernized) so the customer loses that as well.

Hey "Isthatme" :)

Keep your chin up. Don't let this damn economy get you down. You'll be back up on your feet in no time.
