I've been using the old saying "ho hui you qi" around my university campus here in China (I don't know if any of that is mispelled or the tones since it's been a long summer of traveling :).  Is this a bad way to say goodbye?  Everytime I say it the recipient always cracks a smile.

I think that's some sound council considering there is a growing number of young teachers in the Chinese education system.  But regardless of their actual age i agree that 同学 is an excellent word choice when speaking to the teacher, they love it.

Thanks for the key insight I'm a traveler and part time student in Sichuan province and had no idea what kind of pressure drove Chinese students to study so hard.  Now I understand why my bro's start studying three months before a test.  I know what finals week is like in the states, but to have that for a whole year aaaaaaaaah.

One thing I've observed the education system in China is lacking in is physical education and sports.  I've met many students who are a sports major but on average my zhong guo peng you's don't do too much extra cirricular sports since they're just exhausted from their daily studies.  It kinda drives me a bit crazy since I lived in an extreme sports town in the states before coming to China.  Has anyone else noticed this?
