我三年前去过北京。

我三年前去北京了。

Are there any lessons on this particular issue on Chinesepod? If not, a lesson on this would be immensely helpful and appreciated !!!

Two comments:

1. there is a mistake in the vocabulary section. 免稅店 should be "duty-free shop", rather than "shop"

2. Can somebody tell me about the usage of 香烟 ? Is it a regional word ? Is this the most commonly used word for "cigarette" ? I'm curious about it , because I've never heard it, but that could be because my Chinese sucks

I'm curious why the last line in the dialogue is 我去年教过他。

why is 过 used instead of 了 ?

The other day I saw a status update: 今天下午谁来过我家？ This is another case that I don't understand why 过 is used.

I'm glad Ricky Gervais is making a Chinese version of the "Office". It could end up being the best TV show in Chinese history, given the current standard

Has anybody ever seen a good Chinese TV show? I'm yet to find one.

just to be sure, in the 12th sentence "他干的比我少，拿的比我多..." , the two 的 words in this sentence aren't supposed to be 得， right ?

hi John, thanks for that explanation.

Can we say "她是那门课的代课老师”to say that "she is that class' substistute teacher" ( if it's not just one or two class periods, but a temporary job for a few weeks) .
